Watched Movies for May 2013:

Jack Reacher

IMDB (7.0/10)

Tom Cruise was great! handsome as always, played the role well realistically. He was the right choice to play this role. The movie is action, crime and thriller. The plot was fascinating and unpredictable. My attention was grabbed every moment in the movie.

My rating: (7.5/10)

Hotel Transylvania

IMDB: 7.0/10

Did not know the movie until I was chatting with a 11 year old girl who was raving that she loved the movie. Animations aren’t my first go to movie genre, but throughout the years, they’ve always exceeded my rather low expectations for them.

Creative theme and thought provoking for us humans. Fun and entertaining to watch. Well incorporation of other story tale characters in the movie plot as a whole. Great blend of modern culture in music, slang language, and humor with animation.

My rating: 7.0/10

Killing Them Softly

IMDB: 6.3/10

Actions films are always exciting and expectations are high when it comes to intense scenes. In all honesty, one main factor was Brad Pitt. Not so much the story plot, gory blood, directors or anything else.

I was bored in various scenes where there’s too much talking involved. Gun scenes and robbery were exciting for a bit. Intentional use of politicians speeches which was too obvious. Will not watch movie again. However, loved the ending of Brad Pitt’s part on Thomas Jefferson and America.

My rating: 5.0/10 (+1 for Brad) = 6.0/10

Rise of the Guardians

IMDB 7.3/10

Another animation that I thought I’d give a chance since it got decent ratings on IMDB ratings. I do judge movies based on ratings, unfortunately.

Thought Santa Clause of mean but cute with his Russian dolls. Whole movie was a bit trippy and too magical you could say, with its special effects. I was confused with the whole Robert Frost idea. Pretty relaxing movie to watch with family. Got the feeling of power united, we can do this type of emotion in the end. Wouldn’t be exciting to watch again.

My rating: 6/10

This is 40

IMBD: 6.2/10

Even with the low ratings, I wanted to watch it out of curiosity. Wanted to see what it’ll be like and say “this is 40”. Expected it to be funny, hilarious and everything comedy should be.

I don’t remember too much about it other than it was depressing. Made me not want to ever be in a marriage, have a daughter, and be 40. The trailer made the movie seem better than it actually is. Yes, it’s one of those. I just thought it’d be comparable to Judd Apatow’s other great works of 40 year old virgin, Knocked Up, Pineapple Express and more. Don’t want to watch this again. The characters got annoying after half an hour into the movie. Not a good sign.

My rating: 5.0/10

Gangster Squad

IMDB: 6.8/10

Irresistible to Ryan Gosling. Thought of a traditional action crime film with a hot female address. Emma Stone will do.

I enjoyed Ryan and Emma’s relationship scenes. What irritated me was why the squad did not have a plan with what they’re doing. I expected a plan right off the bat. Nope, it was let’s go to this. Sad that so many character died, including shoe boy, engineer guy on the team, and a bunch of good characters that deserved to live! I believe all movies with Ryan Gosling in it deserves a 6.0+. He’s too awesome.

My rating: 6.5/10

Django Unchained

IMDB: 8.6/10

Finally decided to watch it after reading it on NY Times that Chinese government didn’t allow it to be in theatres because of its violence and bloodiness. How bad can it be?

It wasn’t pleasant seeing the broken leg with blood gushing out, two men forced to fight each other like animals til death, whipping of slaves, and torture/punishment of slave being contained in underground sand box for days. It was a bit overboard, but nothing too bad and it made the movie even more spectacular.

I loved all the three characters! Jaime Foxx, Christoph Waltz, and Leonardo DiCaprio! Good or bad, awesome acting and unforgettable personality.

My rating: 8.5/10
